Where We Are
Front of Gite

The farm cottage is completely self-contained and approached from a surfaced country lane. There is a sitting area just outside the front door but you have the choice of several other areas, all perfect places for lazing, lounging or eating outside. A barbecue is available for your use. There is no problem with parking your car and there is a lockable area where bikes can be stored.

lounge bedroom kitchen

Once inside, the main floor is open plan. The modern well-equipped kitchen area leads directly off the lounge/diner. Appliances include a four-ring gas cooker with oven, fridge, microwave, electric kettle and coffee maker.

The shower room has a large shower, washbasin and W.C. It is bright and clean and has a Velux window. Both shower room and kitchen have high ceilings up to the roofline.

A wooden staircase leads up to the galleried bedroom, which has a 4'6'' double bed, a wardrobe and plenty of drawer and storage space. There is reduced headroom in parts as the ceiling follows the roofline. The gallery looks out over the kitchen area and a Velux window gives views up towards
Le Monestier.

The living area is spacious and comfortable and has views across the meadow to the Monts de Forez - views that are constantly changing throughout the seasons. Heating, when necessary, is provided by a log effect gas fire and electric panel heaters use of which is included in your rental.

Winter View Summer View

Le Mayet is a small attractive hamlet with seven houses. It is part of the commune of Le Monestier and nestles in the hills at around 830 metres. Our property, which consists of old stone built farm buildings, flower meadows, gardens, apple trees and a large vegetable plot, covers an area of nearly two acres. The surrounding countryside is farmland and forest. The air is clean and on a clear night the stars are amazing.

There are many pleasant and varied walks in the immediate vicinity and a good range of mountain bike trails nearby. The pretty village centre of Le Monestier is a five-minute drive or a fifteen minute walk up the hill. Standing at the feet of the statue of the Virgin Mary, there are wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.

St Amant Roche Savine, with its post office and bread shop, is a short drive away and down in the valley, at a distance of eight kilometers, lies the medieval market town of Ambert with its numerous shops, excellent supermarkets, restaurants, museums, swimming pool and lake.
